This is an important topic because panic attacks are often confused for anxiety or a heart attack.

Although panic attacks are due to anxiety, they are much more severe than anxiety. The intensity goes far beyond typical anxiety. So much to the point that people often go to the emergency room thinking they might be experiencing a heart attack.

Common symptoms include:

Pounding or racing heart (to the point of pain/thinking you are having a heart attack)
Fear you’re “going crazy” because you cannot control your thoughts and/or body
Feeling detached from reality

Breathing difficulties
Nausea
Fear of dying

Common ways to address panic attacks is to engage in therapy and/or medication management, along with relaxation techniques.
