13 Things Mentally Strong People Do

I’ll admit I can be an emotional, hot mess on my bad days. I am not indestructible. Everyone has times when life gets to them, but the key is to make sure those days are few and far between. I’ve done this by focusing on the 13 things I’ve learned that mentally strong people do.

  1. Have and keep control. One thing I used to struggle with was letting people get the best of me. Never give your power away. Nobody controls how you feel besides you.
  2. Move on. It’s easier said than done, but still necessary. There is no point dwelling over something that cannot be changed. What’s done is done. Feel your emotions, learn from your mistakes, and move forward.
  3. Enjoy time alone.  Self-worth is not determined by how many people surround you. Don’t fear alone time. It’s a time to rest, refelct, and breathe.
  4. Use time and mental energy wisely. Don’t waste time on unproductive people, projects, and thoughts. Get rid of baggage and know when something is not good for you.
  5. Reflect on progress. Think outside of the box if you need to. Be open to constructive criticism. There is always room for improvement.
  6. Embrace change. It’s scary, but needed. It brings new opportunity, new people to learn from, and new lessons. You can’t make progress standing in the same place. Don’t hold yourself back.
  7. Be kind, but not afraid to speak up. There is a way to get your point across without taking low blows. Speak your truth respectfully.
  8. Accept responsibility. I’ve done some really stupid things in my life. I have made poor decision and will continue to mess up. We are all human, don’t beat yourself up. Don’t try to avoid it. Accept your mistakes, own them, and fix what you can.
  9. Be willing to fall. It’s a known part of life that we will all fall at some point. Don’t give up after falling. Every failure is an opportunity to learn and improve.
  10. Celebrate other people’s success. You do not get further by hurting other people (maybe some people do, evalute who you want to be and what’s important). We can all win.
  11. Be relatistic. Everything will not come easy or overnight. Don’t lose sight of the end goal. Keep working.
  12. Think productively and positively. Negative thoughts bring negative energry. You just don’t need that in your life.
  13. Believe in your path. Everyone has a journey. It won’t be easy and that’s ok. Every step is worth it. Every step comes with opportunities and lessons. Take advantage of every moment.
